Teaching

Gavin teaches drawing and painting at the Yellow Barn in Glen Echo, Maryland. Glen Echo is situated right on the Potomac River in between the DC border and Bethesda, so it is easy to get to from Maryland, DC, or Virginia. Figure Drawing: Tuesdays, 7 – 9:30 pm, 1/15/08 through 3/18/08 Draw from a live model to learn the techniques of the "Masters." Become familiar with sketching and "mapping out" a drawing, mastering perspective, separating lights and shadows and rendering and cross-hatching.
Portrait and Figure Drawing or Painting: Saturdays, 10 am – 12:30 pm, 1/19/08 -3/22/08 Draw or paint from a live model to learn the techniques of the "Masters." Become familiar with sketching and "mapping out" a drawing or painting, mastering color and perspective, separating lights and shadows, rendering and working to "get a likeness." For all levels of students interested in the realistic approach to art.
Portrait Painting Workshops: Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm November 17 and 18, 2007 December 8 and 9, 2007 February 23 and 24, 2008 Spend two full days painting or drawing from a live model to learn the painting techniques of the "Masters." Become familiar with "mapping out" a drawing, mastering value, pushing color, and working to get a likeness. This environment enables students to work at their own speed, watch the instructor's demonstrations, get one-on-one feedback, and study the work of well-known artists in order to learn how things are done.
