Glen Echo is situated right on the Potomac River in between the DC border and Bethesda, so it is easy to get to from Maryland, DC, or Virginia. Portrait Painting Workshop: Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm
May 8 and 9, 2010
Spend two full days painting or drawing from a live model to learn the painting techniques of the "Masters." Become familiar with "mapping out" a drawing, mastering value, pushing color, and working to get a likeness. This environment enables students to work at their own speed, watch the instructor's demonstrations, get one-on-one feedback, and study the work of well-known artists in order to learn how things are done. | |

Dynamically Accurate Drawing and Painting Tuesdays, 7 – 9:30 pm, 6/29/10 through 7/27/10
Learn to draw accurately but w/ gusto. Push color & paint w/ bravura, while achieving spot-on proportions. Skulls, flowers, statues, old boots, anything you feel like bringing in from the garage & (if students desire) photographs will make up the subject matter of this course. Students may work in any medium they choose. Intermediate Watercolor Mondays, 9 am – 12 pm, 4/12/10 through 6/14/10 A wide range of watercolor techniques and approaches are covered in this class. Develop skills in color mixing, glazing, and wet-in-wet painting. Work from still life, figure, and landscape. Some experience with watercolors suggested. Urban Landscape Painting Sundays at the Washington Studio School, 1 – 4 pm, 5/23/10 – 6/27/10 (no class 6/6) Spend a few hours on gorgeous Sunday afternoons with Gavin exploring and painting the neighborhoods of Kalorama and Dupont Circle.
